The thing about the batch fuel injection. Fuel just doesn't dump into every cylinder with a carb or TBI. There are intake valves that open and close. The open ones will receive fuel on the intake stroke and the closed ones won't take any fuel cause they are closed. Carburetors can be efficient if tunned correctly.

The people posting that not using engine compression and gearing to slow down your manual - equipped car are full of the proverbial male cow pies. Using the transmission to help you slow down only prolongs the life of your brakes. Nothing more.
